Fine Art Template

Week 10: Edit and Photography Post
Sunset: 6-30-2007; 8:35pm; Hawaii; f 18; 1/1600; Cannon EOS 30D; tripod
Flower: 1/26/2010; 3:19pm; Rexburg, ID; f 4.9; 1/32; Nikon Coolpix L1; handheld

I took the picture of the sunset in Hawaii just after my senior year of high school. I love the color in this picture and think the template turned out pretty cool. I took the picture of the flower at The Floral Shoppe in Rexburg using my micro setting. I made this template in Photoshop by creating a template first, then inserting the image behind the rectangles. I then created a clipping mask.

Ghost: 3-3-2010; 5:13pm; Hotel, Bannack, MT; f 5.6; 6 sec; Sony DSLR-A100; tripod
Sherriff: 3-3-2010; 5:42pm; Hotel, Bannack, MT; f 5.6; 1/10sec; Sony DSLR-A100; tripod

These are my favorite pictures of our Bannack Montana Trip. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and taking all the pictures I was able to take. “Bucket” was just an extremely close macro of the texture of a bucket. “Enjoy the simple things” is one of my favorite pictures from the trip because Buddha was so excited to have her square icecream cone! I love it! “Lantern” was taken in the doctor’s house, I like the shallow look of the shot. “Piano” is a pretty generic shot, but I thought I would put it up, because I liked it. “Lock” is another favorite picture of mine. I took this one looking out to the Masonic Temple with a shallow depth of field. “Masonic Temple” was taken with the sun high in the sky blowing out the photo a bit, but I loved the look of it. “Ghost” was taken inside the hotel in a dark corridor. I thought it turned out really well. Thank you Girls! “Sherriff” is another favorite with mine. I thought Shawn was a great model…I hope his wife likes this picture!

Week 8: Edits

Jenny in a Bottle: I created this picture by first taking a picture of my roommate, Jen, and then taking a picture of my water bottle. I matched color of the picture of Jen to the picture of the water bottle. After that I cropped the picture of Jen and placed it over the water bottle. Then I copied the water bottle picture and turned it into an overlay. After that I used a clipping mask to erase the overlay all around the bottle. Then I adjusted levels and such until it looked real (or at least close).

Bottle: 3-1-2010; 6:06pm; Rexburg, ID; f 2.9; 1/6; Nikon Coolpix L1; Self timer and a tripod
Jen: 3-1-2010; 6:04pm; Rexburg, ID; f 2.9; 1/4; Nikon Coolpix L1; Self timer and a tripod

Help Me: I made this by taking a picture of the whiteboard I have in my room and also by taking a picture of myself using a self timer and a tripod. I then shrunk the image of me and put it on top of my whiteboard to make it look like a mini me was writing.

Whiteboard: 3-1-2010; 5:48pm; Rexburg, ID; f 2.9; 1/32; Nikon Coolpix L1
Bethany: 3-1-2010; 5:37pm; Rexburg ID; f 2.9; 1/31; Nikon Coolpix L1; Self timer and a tripod

Week 8: Photography Post

I took the “Here Comes the Plane” picture outside the Rexburg airport. Brent and I were spending time taking fun pictures throughout the day and thought it would be fun for Brent to eat a plane. Makes me think of the saying people like to say to get kids to eat, “here comes the plane…” I also created “Pinch of Sunshine” while on this excursion. I liked how it looked like I was holding a ball of light.

Here comes the Plane: 1-28-2010; 3:12pm; Rexburg, ID; f 4.9; 1/790; Nikon Coolpix L1
Pinch of Sunshine: 1-28-2010; 3:13pm; Rexburg, ID; f 4.9; 1/939; Nikon Coolpix L1

I made a brushed-on effect by using the history tool and then added a color vignette around the outside for a frame effect.

Night and Light

I took all of these pictures in my apartment down a long dark hallway. The last two I took a few weeks ago, and learned some good lessons to make new pictures like the smiliey face and the egyptian stick man.

Photomerge

Week 6: Edits

After merging the photos I decided that I wanted to change the color to a sepia color. I also wanted to add a painted effect, so I did this by using a history tool. I also added a fading border.

Panoramic

Week 6: Photography

Pano: 2-16-2010; 3:15pm; Beaver Dick, Idaho; f 4.9; 1/609; NIKON COOLPIX; handheld
Pano2: 2-16-2010; 3:15pm; Beaver Dick, Idaho; f 4.9; 1/645; NIKON COOLPIX; handheld
Pano3: 2-16-2010; 3:15pm; Beaver Dick, Idaho; f 4.9; 1/575; NIKON COOLPIX; handheld
Pano4: 2-16-2010; 3:15pm; Beaver Dick, Idaho; f 4.9; 1/645; NIKON COOLPIX; handheld

I took these pictures just outside Beaver Dick Park. I took over 15 photos, but these ones merged the best out of all of the photos that I took. I was trying to wait for a beautiful sunset day, but Idaho was not being accommodating.

Daily Photo Journal

Week 5: Photography

Wednesday: I like the shallow look of this photo of some delicious caramel popcorn I made

Thursday: This morning the weather was really cold and everything was frozen. I liked the shot of this frozen tree in front of the temple.

Friday: My roommate Jaclyn and I were shopping Friday afternoon and I thought this shot would look cool, if she could stop giggling long enough for me to take the picture.

Saturday: This is a picture my boyfriend and I took after an adventurous trip to Idaho Falls. I think my aim with my eyes closed is a pretty good skill.

Sunday: I liked this picture because its a fun picture of our shadows. I like this portrait of us.

Monday: This picture is really so fun. My roommates, boyfriend and his best friend and I were playing around with the light effects pictures Monday night. I thought it was so cool looking. "Who ya gunna call?"

Tuesday: This was my favorite picture of the week because I love the angle and shallowness of this shot. I think it looks beautiful!

Template

Week 5: Edits

I created this template from scratch. I wanted to make it to highlight the best picture of the week along with the best pictures of the day. Obviously I like the flower picture the most. I made the spread fit so that an image can be sized down and placed into the individual rectangles.

Portraits

Week 4: Photography

Roommates: 2-2-2010; 12:34am; Legacy Ridge, Rexburg; f 2.8; 1/60; Kodak Easyshare ZD7; Handheld
Brent: 2-2-2010; 2:13pm; Navoo Apts, Rexburg; f 2.8; 1/100; Kodak Easyshare ZD7; Handheld

Roommates was taken early morning when my roommate and I were wearing our onesie, footie PJs and had crazy hair. Brent was taken mid-afternoon. I like this shot because I caught a moment when he was doing something that he loves - waxing his snowboard.

Luminosity & Enhancements

Week 4: Edits

Roommates: 1-16-2010; 11:33am; “R” Mountain, Idaho; f 2.8; 1/500; Easyshare ZD7; Handheld
Hayden: 10-1-2010; 2:36pm; Sandy, Utah; f 4.0; 1/125; Sony DSC-H50; Handheld
Hayden Picking up a Rock: 10-1-2010; 2:44pm; Sandy, Utah; f 4.0; 1/125; Sony DSC-H50; Handheld
Shoot for the Moon: 5/13/08; 10:35am; James River, Virginia; f 3.5; 1/342; Nikon Coolpix L1; Handheld

"Roommates" I enhanced the levels before doing anything. I touched up some pimples and smeared makeup as well as making the overall look of the skin more smooth. I color matched "Hayden" with "Hayden picking up a rock" because I liked the latter picture's color better. I then burned the edges to draw the eye into the subject more. "Shoot for the Moon" was originally taken on a ferry on the James River near Jamestown Virginia. I had to erase a lot of unnecessary stuff from the background to be able to make the picture look like I wanted it to look. After erasing all of that I followed the tutorial to make the luminosity effect. I decided to make the gradient look like the sunray. I thought it came out to look pretty good.
